Batbox checks at Marbury Country Park, Cheshire (2012)

Cheshire Bat Group monitor the batboxes annually at Marbury Country Park and I went along to help out.  The batboxes are on some rather tall trees in the nature reserve and it wouldn’t have been possible to check them without some very long ladders and brave bat workers willing to don climbing harnesses and ropes to reach the boxes… needless to say, as this was my first time at the site, I stuck to holding ladders and generally trying to make myself useful.  This site holds Cheshire Bat Group’s record for the largest number of bats ever found in one box – but this time all we found was one soprano pipistrelle and one common pipistrelle.  Check out the photos on Cheshire Bat Group’s Facebook page.
