Crank Caverns bat survey, Merseyside (2012)

Crank Caverns is a well known bat hibernation site and in recent years has hosted several different bat species, albeit in fluctuating numbers.  I visited with Merseyside and West Lancs Bat Group, for what was initially planned to be a check of the caverns, but ended up being a litter pick and general mooch about as it was early November and still unseasonably warm.  I’m hoping to go back to the site later in the winter to assist with “proper” hibernation surveys, although as I’m no caver you might find me sitting outside with a book acting as the man on the surface, a backup for the team inside the caverns should something go wrong and help be needed.
