Hibernation bat survey, Crank, Merseyside (2013)

Four hardy souls braved the mud at Crank and were rewarded with 4 Daubenton’s, 5 Natterer’s, 2 Whiskered/Brandt’s and 1 brown long-eared bat.  Massive excitement as it’s the first time I’ve seen actual hibernating bats in situ.  Came back caked in mud, thanks heavens for cheap waterproof trousers !

Did leave me thinking I should take up yoga again; bats seem to like hibernating in places that are really awkward to look into unless you contort yourself into a most unnatural position….
