I visited the caves at Beeston with Cheshire Bat Group to participate in a hibernation bat survey. The site is managed by English Heritage and the caves are gated, so it was a really good opportunity to visit a site I wouldn’t normally be able to access. Thanks to the bat group for making this possible !
We were successful in refinding 1 lesser horseshoe bat, a regular winter visitor to the cave. We believe it’s a male; unfortunately no sign as yet of a maternity colony in Cheshire 😦 Also in the cave was another bat, but we’re not sure which species, as it was tucked up so well all we could see was a little bit of fur !
There was nothing in the bat boxes this time; we live in hope….
