This was a splendid (if damp) excursion to investigate the bryophytes around the Mansion and associated buildings and parkland. Species of the day was the liverwort Nardia scalaris growing on a damp sandstone wall.
We spent so much time recording the bryophytes around the buildings that there wasn’t much time to spare for the deer park itself. We’ll just have to come back another day. Here is some lovely Hypnum cupressiforme s.l. growing on a fallen tree.
