Spring batbox check at Marbury Country Park

This is at least my seventh blogpost about bats at Marbury Country Park!  Use the search bar or click “bats” to find some of the others.

The spring batbox check is a regular appointment in my calendar – as regular readers will know, I’ve been much involved in surveys for Nathusius pipistrelle over the last couple of years, and they have been frequently recorded at this site.  If there’s a chance of Nathusius, I’ll be there 🙂

As usual, the batbox checkers heeded the call to bring plenty of cake and several people competed as to who had brought the best chocolate brownies…… this must have been appreciated in some way by the bats as we had a very good count this year.  One noctule, who was less than impressed at being woken from her slumbers; 21 soprano pipistrelles including a male in a box with no less than ten accompanying females (hellooooo); and last but not least THREE Nathusius, all in the same box, comprising a male and female, both ringed, and an unringed companion which we *hope* might be their offspring from last year.  Exciting stuff 🙂

If you’d like to join Cheshire Bat Group at their next event, visit them on Facebook and sign up for the email list.
